This policy applies to employees, guest, programmers and volunteers of the Good News Rescue Mission who may have access to highly personal or sensitive information. Confidentiality extends not only for the duration of an individual's relationship with GNRM but continues indefinitely.
Legislative requirements to report illegal or medically urgent circumstances supersede this policy. In these circumstances, only those persons who need to know the circumstance will be consulted.
1. Definition
Any information acquired in circumstances where there was confidence and trust that the information would remain private is considered confidential. it is important to recognize that confidential information can be acquired through a variety of means written, electronic or verbal.
Any information acquired through an involvement with GNRM which identifies an individual by, for example, health status, race, mailing or e-mail address, name, or telephone, fax, or Social Insurance Number is considered confidential. Information related to the business of GNRM, which is not intended for public consumption, for example, financial records or personnel records shall also be considered confidential.
Confidentiality extends to health and personal information received by a volunteer from outside sources in the course of their official duties.
