For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty, and you gave me drink.
I was a stranger and you took me in.

Second Chance Ranch

A ministry of the Good News Rescue Mission
Across the country, Rescue Missions are discovering that there is a greater number of men finding a new life, a relationship with God, and long term sobriety, as they are able to live and work in a rural, agricultural setting.

Today, the Good News Rescue Mission has the opportunity to begin developing a Ranch program. Through the generosity of Molly and Henry Klassen, The Mission has received 160 acres of ranch land just twenty-three miles from Redding. With about one third of the land "tillable" and over half gentle slopes, the possibilities for gardening, livestock and good old fashioned hard work abound! In the growing season of 2000, The Mission began a small gardening operation, and plans to have goats, a beef and perhaps two pigs under production in 2001. The meat and vegetables produced will directly benefit the meal programs of The Mission, but they will also provide men in the New Life program greater opportunity to learn skills and responsibility. As men are working the ground, planting, harvesting, raising animals, cutting wood, building fences and shelters, they will be gaining a valuable education in personal responsibility and learning healthy work ethics.

Each week a different team of men, under supervision, are transported to The Ranch for the various work projects. The group changes weekly, so that most of the men in the program have the opportunity to work The Ranch. Ultimately, we plan to build a bunkhouse, dining room, chapel and classrooms so that the men can live, work and complete the recovery program on the ranch.
