The free medical clinic at the Good News Rescue Mission started in a spare 8 x 8 room in July 1998, by March 1999 the Free Clinic was expanded to accommodate two new exam rooms and a central desk and waiting area.
The purpose and intent of the Good News Free Clinic is to fill a need in the community for no cost access to healthcare services, counseling and education. These services provide treatment of acute episodic health occurrences for the portion of the north state population not served by federal, state and county aid programs, as well as those who simply cannot afford basic healthcare. Individuals who are eligible for Medi-Cal, C.M.S.P., or Veterans healthcare benefits are appropriately referred. A large segment of our services are providing healthcare to the homeless, near homeless, and individuals sheltered at the Rescue Mission. The inability to have a permanent place to stay, to sleep, and to store one's belongings compromises individual and public health in a very fundamental manner.
